A safe, friendly space to explore life, faith and meaning
Most of us have questions about life, faith and what it all means, but we rarely get the chance to talk them through. The Alpha course is a chance to explore the basics of the Christian faith and finally get to ask all those big questions.
We welcome everybody to our Alpha course in Kents Hill, including those who are curious, skeptical, from other faiths, from no faith, looking for a fresh perspective, confused, atheist or seeking.
What to expect
Alpha isn’t a lecture, a sermon or a class. It’s an open conversation. Each session starts with a short film on a theme such as the purpose of life, who is Jesus, why pray, what is the Holy Spirit and how does God guide us.
After the film, we move into small groups for discussion. This is the heart of the Alpha course when you can share your thoughts, ask those really difficult questions, challenge ideas presented in the videos and listen to what others think.
For our in-person Alpha courses, you can also expect coffee, tea and plenty of snacks.
Why do Alpha with us?
We run Alpha because we believe that talking about the 'big stuff’—life, meaning, suffering, purpose and God—has huge value, regardless of whether or not you have a faith. We offer an open, honest space to explore what Christian faith is about and very much want it to be somewhere you can feel at ease and free to be yourself.
We understand that for many people faith can seem remote or irrelevant. We try to avoid religious jargon and simply explore how faith relates to the every day reality of our lives.
We take a ‘no strings, no pressure’ approach. You’re free to come for just one session to see what it’s like. If it’s not for you, no one will pressure you to come back. If you decide to stay, you’re free to engage as much or as little as you feel comfortable. You certainly won't find any ‘hard sell’. Just a group of people interested in having a genuine, meaningful conversation.
